Emergency calling (911) notice
IVRC is an internet-based business phone system, not a traditional telephone service. Emergency (911) calling is severely restricted and may not work during power, internet or service outages, or if your address isn't registered. Always keep another way to call 911, such as a mobile phone.
Emergency calling (911) is available after your emergency address has been registered and your service shows Ready. VoIP emergency calling has limitations and can be affected by Internet, power, network or service outages. Keeping your emergency addresses accurate and current is your responsibility. Keep another way to call emergency services.
- 911 calling is supported on eligible Canadian and US lines when the line is set up for emergency service by the phone company. Until your account shows the emergency address as Ready, do not rely on it.
- When you set up your service you must set the emergency (911) address of each number, and the address of each phone used at another location, such as a phone a worker uses at home or at another office.
- Keeping every one of these addresses accurate and current is your legal responsibility. If you move a phone, device or location, update the address first; a call may otherwise show the wrong location.
- A 911 call shows the address your business registered for the number. Someone calling from a phone at another location may need to tell the operator where they are.
- Power, Internet, network, equipment or provider outages can interrupt or delay emergency calls.
- When you call 911 you may need to tell the operator your current location and callback number.
- Keep another way to call emergency services, such as a mobile phone.
- You must tell everyone who uses your phones, including your workers, about these limitations.
Outside calling, fees and charges
- You can dial 911 from your phones at any time. Calls to other outside numbers are turned on only once the emergency (911) address of your number is registered and confirmed by the phone company (it shows Ready) and, for a phone used at another location, once that phone's address has been entered.
- A 911 call shows a business number whose emergency address is registered. Keep the address of every number and of every phone used at another location accurate and current.
- Emergency (911) service has a one-time setup fee and a monthly fee for each number; they are charged to your business.
- If the phone company charges for an emergency call made while your 911 registration was not complete (for example a per-call fee), that charge is passed on to your business and added to its next invoice.
- Your business is responsible for telling everyone who uses its phones about these rules and limitations.
- To the extent the law allows, we are not liable when a 911 call fails or is delayed because an address was inaccurate, out of date or missing, because of an outage, or because your 911 registration was not completed.
- Your business indemnifies and holds us harmless from any claim, damage or charge arising from the use of 911 by you or your users, from an inaccurate or missing address, or from not informing your users of these limitations.
This notice is shown when you set up your service, and your service starts only after you expressly accept it. It is always available at ivrc.hostingsip.com/legal/emergency-911.
